Murilla Landcare Group Inc is an association of small Landcare Groups in the Maranoa-Balonne Catchment.

The group was originally formed in 1988 to raise awareness on the sustainable use of natural resources in the Murilla Shire. Since 1994, a full time coordinator has been employed. There are ten members on the group's management committee including community members, landholders and representatives from the Murilla Shire Council.

The Landcare groups within the Murilla/Bendemere Region operate in an area with diverse farming systems. These vary from intensive livestock industries, broadacre farming (both dryland and irrigated) to livestock grazing systems. Some of the the major threats affecting the natural resource base of these properties are soil erosion, weeds, soil fertility decline and stresses on grazing systems. Vegetation management is also an important issue in the area.

Aims

The Murilla Landcare Group Inc provides a forum for group members to share ideas and a united voice for Landcare in the Murilla Shire. The association provides for the formation of and ongoing facilitation support for sub-catchment scale planning and implementation groups aimed at achieving integrated and sustainable land managent practices.
